A weeks worth of prayers that every wife should be praying over her husband. The power of prayer is often underestimated. In this post, I hope you find encouragement in how to pray for your husband. Prayer is simple, give it a try!

Why should wives be praying for their husbands?
In Philippians 4:6, we are told “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
The first half of that command is referring to the fact that we are to be praying about every aspect of our lives. God does not pick and choose which parts we ought to be praying about. Nor does he pick and choose what part of our lives are necessary to be prayerful in. God simply desires us to be in prayer about everything in our lives, including our husbands. Just like ourselves, our husbands need God’s grace. This is because we are all sinners in constant need of forgiveness.
Prayer for God’s covering over the eyes of our men
This broken world is full of many temptations that would catch the eyes of our husband. Such as current fashion trends. Revealing and tight clothing catches the eyes of our husbands whether they are intentionally looking for it or not. Therefore, what is supposed to be kept holy before God is instead flaunted for personal gratification.
A prayer that I like to be praying over my husband daily addresses just that. There are not right or wrong words to say. Just start out by acknowledging this temptation and asking God to cover the eyes of your husband so that he may not be tempted.

Prayer for spiritual growth
Spiritual growth is vital to our husbands ability to be able to fight worldly temptations. You see, the closer our husbands are to The Lord, the more power God can give them over sin and temptation. That being said, we need to be praying daily that our husbands would be reading His Word and praying to Him daily.
Ephesians chapter 6 is a great passage to be praying over your husband. This is the part of scripture that tells us to “put on the whole armor of God.” Because we have power found in The Lord, Jesus alone we can arm ourselves with scripture.
Prayer for protection over idolatry
There are so many things that can be an idol for us. An idol is anything that is put before God. Even something good can become an idol if it is put before God in our lives.
A common idol for most people today is our cell phones. So many people don’t realize the kind of hold technology can have over us. Dismissing cell phones as a cause for a loll in our spiritual life can be a sign that we are in fact making this an idol in our lives. Defensiveness upon confrontation can also be a sign that said thing is becoming an idol in ones life.
If we truly care for our husbands spiritual growth in The Lord, it is imperative that we make this prayer a priority.
Prayer over his identity in Christ
Identity in Christ is our true ground of who we are. Our husband’s worth is found solely in Christ, not what the world might say makes them important. Some examples of what the world would lead our men to believe include: identity found in financial success, political position, or even what hobbies they have.
Satan wants nothing more than for us to believe the lie that our identity is found in anything other than Christ. Galatians 2:20 affirms our identity in Christ. It is as follows, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who lie, but Christ who lives in me.” This is just one of many examples in scripture where our identity in Christ is affirmed. We need to know truth so that we can discern truth from lies.
Prayer that his anger may be righteous anger
Angering things surround us daily. There is a difference between anger and righteous anger. It’s like the saying “hate the sin, not the sinner.” Righteous anger is one that hates what God hates, sin. Not simply being angry as a mere feeling towards someone as an emotion. Anger stirred up between us is what can pull us apart.
An example of righteous anger in The Bible is when Jesus became angry with the people in the marketplace. The marketplace was taking place in God’s house, the temple. This was a place to be sacred to worship God, not to sell things. Therefore, Jesus flipped tables and spoke in anger towards the people to drive them out. Read Matthew 21 to find this example in scripture.
Prayer that his interactions would be pure
God created us to be in fellowship with other believers. I prayed for my husband for years in regards to this. The prayer I would lift up to The Lord sounded something like this: “Lord, please bring strong believers into my husbands life so that iron can be sharpened by iron.”
Of course, He outdid this prayer. Not only did God answer this after about 3 years of praying this, but He also developed a new passion in my husband. My husband has been brought to a strong body of believers where his cup is being filled and he is being sharpened. He also has grown passionate about shepherding the flock. This is more than I could have prayed for and so I am thankful.
God is so good and faithful to answer our prayers in His perfect timing. I have seen this be the case over and over again as I pray for my husband. What comes out of the mouth is an outpouring of what’s in their heart so be praying that your husbands speech reflects that of a child of God. (Matthew 15:18) This is an example of a parable Jesus was telling the disciples in scripture. He was trying to explain how our speech defiles us.
Pray also for God’s direction and wisdom
Our husbands have a big job of being the leader of the home. This is not only financially or with making decisions but spiritually as well. There is a heavy burden for them to know how to lead us, according to God’s will. I am so glad God gave this role to my husband and not I.
Be in prayer that He would know which way is the right way God would have him lead. Another word of encouragement is that our husbands can and will be encouraged by our conduct. Encourage your husbands prayer life by simply praying for him. You’ll be amazed how much this can do in the way of motivating your husband to do the same.

Wonderful article! This is so true! You mentioned Phil. 4:6. This is the verse that stood out to us when Daniel had his accident and we weren’t sure if he was going to make it. We just kept praying and thanking God no matter the outcome.
Christy,
That’s such a good verse to turn to. I’m in awe to see what God has done then and is currently doing now to transform Daniel!
Love this post! I needed this reminder. ❤
Rachel,
We all need reminded of this at times, so I definitely do too!
