Spring time is here! I’ve been loving diffusing Spring time oils in my home, it’s a breath of fresh air. With the change of season my allergies are kicking up and so is my dry skin. I’ve been spending all my time out in the sun working on our new, fenced in raised garden area. This process has been a slow one since I have small children to care for at home, my time is split up tremendously. That being said, my skin has been taking a beating due to the sun exposure and playing in the dirt!

I love that I have a safe, and effective option at home for all of our health care and daily needs. It’s so awesome and empowering to be in charge of what is going into my families bodies. I am a firm believer that food is medicine. Going along with that, herbs and Essential Oils are also a natural and effective option to keep us healthy.

When choosing an Essential Oil company to support and use in your home, there are some things to consider. I would recommend asking the following questions when you begin searching for an Essential Oil company you can trust to use in your home.

Questions to ask yourself when choosing an Essential Oil brand

Purity

  • Are these Essential Oils CPTG? This means that the company is Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. It ensures no contaminants are in the oils and that the oils are qualified to be used therapeutically. This is an important factor to consider, for me, because it is another assurance that the Essential Oils I am using in my home are safe and effective.

Sourcing

  • Where are these Essential Oils sourced from? Not all companies acquire their oils the same way. In fact, they are all quite different. I chose the brand I did because they source each oil from where that crop is best grown in the entire world. This also has helped to create jobs in third world countries and allowed us to work directly with the farmers. The importance of cutting out the middle man is that the company can ensure that the crop is being harvested at the peak of harvest and only the best crops are excepted. It is a lot more personable to work directly with the farmers. I love that I am part of something so big that is making a huge impact in the world.

Testing

  • What is the testing like? Some companies do multiple third party tests on EACH batch of Essential Oils created. Each batch is given a LOT number that can be tracked, should you ever find an inefficiency in the oil you receive. If any inefficiency was found in the batch, the batch can easily be recalled and inspected. Make sure that the brand you choose is doing third party testing. Third party testing can ensure the purity of the Essential Oils. Purity is what makes an Essential Oil effective. Most Essential Oils are adulterated and not a pure product, so I definitely do NOT recommend just buying what’s cheap at the convenient store.

The Essential Oil brand I use and love!

The trusted, Essential Oil brand that I chose to use in my home is doTERRA Essential Oils. I love this company for multiple reasons. One reason I chose their products is due to the purity they ensure, which in turn makes the oils potent and effective. I also love that I am a part of a mission that is impacting people all over the world creating jobs, schools, water sources, and more! Read more about this company and learn why doTERRA is the only Essential Oil company I can trust.

What Essential Oils are best for the skin?

There are many oils that are great at supporting and healing our skin. Find a list below of my favorite ones.

  • Yarrow/ Pom

I love this oil for the regenerative properties. This oil is great for repairing skin that has been affected by free radicals. Reducing wrinkles and helping to produce collagen are also among the ways that this oil can help our skin. Both internal and external benefits come from combining Yarrow and Pomegranate in an Essential Oil blend.

  • Lavender

Lavender is a simple, go-to oil in our home. It is soothing and moisturizing for the skin. Lavender is also great at reducing the appearance of blemishes, including bruises, while providing a soothing aromatic experience.

  • Frankincense

Frankincense is considered the King of all oils. When in doubt, try Frankincense. There is a reason that Frankincense was a prized oil in biblical times. The list of uses for this Essential Oil go on and on. I especially love it as a safe option for myself and my kids to soothe and moisturize our skin.

  • Roman Chamomile

Like Lavender, Roman Chamomile is a great option for soothing the skin and calming any irritations. I use Roman Chamomile is the same way I do Lavender.

Antibacterial Oils

  • Tea Tree

Tea Tree is an oil that contains antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. For this reason, it is perfect to use on unwanted blemishes, while cleansing the skin. I call this oil the zit zapper!

  • Peppermint

Like Tea Tree, Peppermint oil is great for cleansing the skin and providing soothing affects.

A Note on applying Essential Oils directly to the skin

If irritation occurs when using a CPTG Essential oil, simply apply a carrier oil until irritation subsides. Every one reacts differently to each oil and it’s important to use only one or two drops when applying directly to the skin, namely the face, with carrier oil.

There are many more Essential Oils that are great for use on the skin. Flower Oils, such as Jasmine and Rose, also have AMAZING benefits for the skin. Try out different ones and see what works best for you, personally. Essential Oils are a very personal product. Meaning, the efficiency is very individual and not the same for everyone. What works best on your skin, may not work for me and vice versa.

My Favorite Carrier Oil Options

  • Coconut Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Vegetable Glycerin

The use of a carrier oil has a couple of benefits. First off, it helps prolong the life of the oils when applied to the skin. It does not make the Essential Oils less effective, but rather the opposite. Carrier oils also help dilute the oil enough for use on sensitive skin. Be sure you are using an Organic carrier oil, since it is being applied directly to the skin. Our skin in the largest organ on and in our entire body and everything that goes on our skin, goes into our bodies.

2 Ingredient Facial Serum | Simple Face Moisturizer Ingredients

  • Yarrow Pom Essential Oil
  • Organic Jojoba Oil

How to make simple face moisturizer with Essential Oils

To make ahead, simply add 20-30 drops of Yarrow Pom to a bottle of Jojoba Oil, screw on the dropper lid, and tip several times to mix.

Hand with Jojoba oil and Yarrow Pom in it

*Note: I don’t usually make this ahead of time for use. Instead, I add 1 drop of Yarrow Pom to the palm of my hand with about 1/2 tsp of Organic Jojoba Oil. Then I just rub my hands together to combine and massage into my clean face and décolletage.

      Barbra-Sue,
Thank you, they have been a life saver for us. I definitely recommend just getting them on the skin or into the body somehow, they will benefit in some way even if it ends up not helping with that specific ailment. For me, I felt confident once I became consistent in use and started learning more about the specific oils that I was using!

This was so interesting. I never realized I could add essential oils to my moisturizers. I only used mine for inside my diffuser. Yay, now I have a new purpose for them.

Yes! they help aid the body in so many ways and are so versatile. I add them to everything I can and it always helps, even if the benefits uplift my mood. I’m so glad you learned a new way to utilize your oils.
