Taco seasoning is a super simple recipe to make. It’s nice to make in bulk to have on-hand for last minute meals.

Tacos are are meal that my family resorts to often. We have two small children so there are times we find ourselves scrambling for a quick meal during the day. I love making my own seasoning blends because they are simple to make and free of artificial ingredients. I know exactly what’s in it if I make it.

My hope is to be an example to my children and others of just how easy things can be made at home if you just keep the basics on hand. In my house we only keep things around that we use and we often find multiple uses for said things.

When I shop for basic seasonings, I order them in bulk from Azure Standard. I recommend buying organic seasonings just as I do vegetables. Therefore, you can be sure your family is not being fed any pesticides or additives. Just pure dried and ground produce is all you should be getting when you buy a basic seasoning.

Basic seasonings can be used to make other seasoning blends as well, like Italian seasoning blend. I will make up a big batch and store it in a mason jar. My seasonings generally last me about 3 months since I am a from-scratch cook, I am constantly using them.

Why make homemade Taco Seasoning?

There are two main reasons that I like to make my own homemade taco seasoning. The first is that it’s just to simple to do. Personally, I find it easier than going to the store to buy it.

Secondly, making your own is customizable to my families sensitivities to spices. For example, you can add less cumin and chili powder to make the taco seasoning more tolerable for children. On the contrary, you can add some Cayenne pepper or Red Pepper flakes to your homemade taco seasoning to give it more of a kick.

As I mentioned above, another bonus is that I know exactly what is in it. I can be sure my family is not consuming things like harmful food colorings or anti-caking agents that are often added to the packets you buy at the store.

We do our best in our home to consume only real foods. It’s our belief that God did not design our bodies to be able to digest additives well. The worlds health is proving that belief to be true.

There are so many more illnesses present today than even 50 years ago. Food is medicine and we should treat it as such. I’ve seen the power of eating whole foods and avoiding premade convenient foods.

Ideas for uses

The most common thing we use our homemade taco seasoning in is ground beef. Doing so makes a versatile meal option. I can then use that seasoned and cooked ground beef to make thinks like tacos, pizzas, nachos, and casseroles. This seasoning is also good on shredded Chicken, Pork, or Beef. The best flavor profile is given when used on beef dishes, in my family’s opinion.

If you are not wanting to consume meats, this home made taco seasoning could also be used on squash or veggies. Just shop seasonally and try it on whatever vegetables are in season to add a Mexican flare to any dish.

You’ve got to try this homemade Taco Seasoning in my Tacos with Pumpkin Simple Recipe. The mix of spice with the savory and sweet Pumpkin is so good. Just add 2-3 tablespoons of this homemade taco seasoning to the browned ground beef. The tacos make the best busy, weeknight meal. We’ve been making them a lot lately and somehow my family still can’t get enough! This seasoning would also make a great variation of Pizza.

Save it for later!
