Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day. I would say it’s the absolute best meal. Here are some of our simple and wholesome breakfast recipe ideas that we eat week after week!

Breakfast is a meal that we do NOT go without in our home. Our fast metabolisms can’t survive on a muffin or cup of coffee to get us by in the mornings. Truth is, yours doesn’t either!
Now, I know not everyone is a big breakfast person. But, I’d love to offer some delicious ideas for getting that first meal of the day into our bodies to fuel us! Most mornings this looks very quick and simple, however, it is nice to have a handful of more extravagant breakfast recipes in your arsenal.
Our home is a busy one. I have 2 boys and a husband that LOVE to eat, so I have to have a big meal prepared for all meals, including Breakfast. I won’t leave me out of that either, I have to eat within an hour of getting up or I get sick. Once the day gets going it just doesn’t stop. Things are always busy around here whether with garden projects or just weekly tasks, we are always running around.
One thing we try to do to be sure we have a good meal in our bellies for Breakfast is, make it ahead in bulk. Let’s talk about some of the recipes that are great for making ahead in bulk and freezing. These would also be great for any expectant mother to get into her freezer for when a new baby comes home and mom needs to rest.

- Breakfast sandwiches
- Homemade Pop Tarts
What You Need To Make Breakfast Burritos
- Tortillas, homemade preferred
- Eggs
- Meat of choice
- Cheese, Raw preferred
- Potatoes
- Fresh salsa for serving, optional
We like to be sure we have enough carbs and protein in our meals. Adding potatoes and meat to a simple breakfast burrito will help you have fuel for the day and to stay full longer. Wrap burritos in plastic wrap or keep in freezer safe containers until ready to consume. Freeze for up to 4 months. When you are ready to use them just unwrap and place in the oven in an oven-safe dish for 5-10 minutes, until warmed through.
What You Need To Make Breakfast Sandwiches
- Sourdough English Muffins
- Eggs
- Cheese, Raw preferred
- Meat of choice
- Veggies of choice, optional
Lisa, at farmhouseonboone.com, has a delicious Sourdough English muffin recipe that we use weekly for quick Breakfast and Lunch meals. Sourdough gives baked goods a wonderful, tangy flavor and naturally rises the bread. Long fermenting the English Muffin dough before cooking will ensure they will be easier to digest.
Sourdough English muffins work great for making breakfast sandwiches ahead and freezing for later. Simply cook the eggs on the stove top or in the oven and layer on the toppings. Then, just wrap them up and place in the freezer until ready to use. Freezing and Reheating instructions are the same as listed above for the burritos.
Overnight Soaked Breakfast Recipes
These recipes are soaked overnight to ensure the liquid is properly absorbed. I love that you can just pop them in the oven in the morning for a quick Breakfast that’s ready to go. The versatility of this recipe makes it so nice to switch up Breakfast recipes with what fruits and veggies are currently in season.
Quick and Easy Morning-Of Breakfast Recipe Ideas
- Scrambled eggs with whatever veggies are lurking in the fridge
- Homemade hash browns
- Oatmeal, Old Fashioned or Steel Cut have the highest nutritional value
- Biscuits and gravy
- Sourdough Scones
Most mornings we just scramble or fry up some eggs and make homemade hash browns with a side of sauerkraut and call it good. If we have avocados or fresh fruit on hand we will have that alongside the eggs and hash browns in lieu of sauerkraut.
How To Make Homemade Hash Browns
Peel and shred Russet potatoes and squeeze out moisture. Preheat a Cast Iron Skillet over medium heat on the stove top with plenty of Coconut Oil, like tablespoons full. Once it’s nice and hot, add the shredded potatoes and flip once when the bottom layer is nice and brown. Serve with homemade fermented ketchup for extra probiotics and a delicious flavor!
How To Make Homemade Biscuits and Gravy
Follow my recipe for Sourdough Scones for ingredients to make biscuits, but use 1/4 cup of honey instead and leave out the Cranberries and Orange juice. Cut into circles instead of triangles to make biscuits.
To make Homemade gravy, to a Cast Iron skillet add breakfast sausage seasonings to 1 pound of ground beef or post and cook. Once cooked, add a couple Tablespoons of Einkorn flour (or flour of choice) to the skillet and cook for a minute or two. Add milk (whole, raw preferred) to the skillet and whisk until thickened. Serve atop warm biscuits with grass-fed butter, yum!
Cold Breakfast Side Ideas
Here are some sides that we have with eggs on occasion that are a bit lighter.
- Smoothies
- Cottage Cheese with Fresh Fruit
- Homemade Granola and yogurt
- Hummus and Veggies or Toast
- Avocado with Toast
I hope that this gave you some new ideas to try to see just how simple and fun Breakfast can be. Your body will thank you for the from-scratch nutrition you are giving it to fuel the day.
